Take 2 Women
Tess Burrows, a 60 year old grandmother and ecologist, trekked to the South Pole in January 2009 to send out peace messages for the well being of Planet Earth and Mankind, and to raise awareness and funds for charities concerned with Children in Tibet, The World Wildlife Fund and The Multiple Sclerosis Society. www.teamsouthernlights.org
Speaking of the Team Southern Lights mission, Tess commented:
“We of Team Southern Lights are also racing on a special mission to help the Earth by inviting you to write an environmental pledge or message of peace, highlighting that individuals can do something about the disharmony of our planet. We will express these messages at the South Pole in a similar way to our peace ceremony at the magnetic North Pole in 2006 and previously on other high spots around the globe. This follows the ancient Tibetan tradition of flying messages on prayer flags to bring peace and harmony to all.”
Jane Thurnell-Read, a 61 year old grandmother and the proprietor of an ethical health products business based in Cornwall undertook a 1,000 mile bicycle ride from Lands End to John O’Groats to raise money for the charity, Village Water - a small charity that works on wells and sanitation for villages in Zambia. The examples set by these two compassionate women provide a different sort of morality tale to the one that feeds the headlines of daily news reports about ruined banks, executive greed and MP’s floating duck houses!
Tess Burrows and Jane Thurnell-Read set an inspiring example for us all. We would like to hear from other users of Yin Yang products who may know of stories like these – that remind us that many people continue to act with great selflessness – whatever the news headlines tell us.
